"The Lord of The Rings" - J.R.R Tolkien
by Aimee
The Lord of the Rings is possibly the best book I have ever read. It is an amazing fantasy-themed book set in the world of "Middle-Earth". When Frodo Baggins, a young hobbit, inherits his uncle Bilbo's golden ring he is (slightly unwillingly) put on an adventure. The golden ring was forged by the dark lord Sauron who lost it long ago. Now Sauron is reforming his armies, regrouping and Frodo must travel to the land of Mordor to destroy the ring and foil the dark lord in his eveil purpose.
The Lord of the Rings is a trilogy - The Fellowship of the Ring; The Two Towers and The Return of The King. All of them are fantastic but my favourite must be The Two Towers - Frodo and his friend Sam come across an unlikely and dangerous guide. Aragorn, Gimli the dwarf, and Legolas the elf defend Rohan against Saruman's Uruk-Hai armies in Helm's Deep.

"Blood Beast" - Darren Shan (Demonata series) - Horror.
by Ben Clasper
Blood Beast is a scary, thrilling book that is un-put-downable. I ended up reading nearly all night because of the amazing story. It's tense because you need to read the whole book to reveal all its secrets. Also, it doesn't swear so if you like horror but not nagging parents about books that swear, this is the author you need! Some books in this series need the following book to reveal the whole plot of the tale.
Blood Beast was amazing! A boy called Grubbs (the focus of the series) was turning into a wolf because of a family curse and he found a cave that killed his friend...on the run from people who want to kill him for his curse, Grubbs finds himself trapped on a plane of dead carcasses with Demons closing in on all sides...
Anyone who likes horror, tension and gory stuff, this is the book for you!

It is based on the idea of children going to an agency to choose their own parents."

“I am Malala” book review
I’ve heard things on the radio about Malala being shot and people explaining what happened to her but it was never in enough detail and always left me curious. However, this book explains the suffering she went through from being born up to when she moved to England.
Malala’s life in Pakistan was always challenging for the whole family. It was especially difficult for girls who wanted to go to school. There were terrorists around every corner and the constant food shortages are just some of the disadvantages they had to put up with during their time in Swat. Her book also tells us how, before Malala was born, her father struggled to get recognition from his own dad and how he tried so hard to impress him that it turned into a life goal.
Malala’s father also owned a school which she attended, being a very competitive student, always being top of her class.
Although she attended school every day by bus, there was still a high risk for girls her age to be attacked. Sadly, that’s what happened. The Taliban don’t appreciate that education is for everyone and think it is wrong for girls to attend school. Unfortunately, they shot Malala and her two friends while they were on their way to school one day. Shortly after, she was driven to the nearest hospital. Three bullets were shot altogether, killing her 2 best friends and injuring Malala.
Overall, I found this book inspiring, although very long. It is a very challenging book although, it is worth it because not only has Malala survived, but she has shown us all that courage, confidence and strength can win a battle between good and bad, even in the most deadly situation.

The London Eye
This book is an excellent book. I recommend this book to anyone of any age. My favourite part of the story is when two children go to take their cousin Salim, to the London Eye for the first time. Salim gets on the London Eye at 11.32 and at 12.02 everyone starts to come out but where is Salim? The two main charecters were the children, Ted and Kat.I had this book recommended to me by the school librarian, she said it was one of her favourite books so I thought I’d better read it. The front cover is very eye catching and the blurb is very exciting. Once you read the first couple of pages you want to read the rest. The book drags you in like you are actually there.

Joffre White author of "Frog" and "Frog and the Sandspiders of Aridian" visits Nailsea School
Years 7 and 8 were very lucky to have a visit from author Joffre White on Wednesday. Many students commented afterwards on how much they had enjoyed his energetic, interactive and interesting talk. Some said he had "inspired" them. The requests to read Joffre's novels following his appearance meant the librarians had to order extra stock to keep up with demand! If you would like to know more about Joffre White you can visit his website here www.joffrewhite.com
Joffre shown below talking to students after his workshop.
If you would like to see your own book review here please send it in to Mrs Hardill or Mrs Taylor either by email, by using the contact form on the home page, or by dropping off a written copy to the library.
A Web of Air, Scriveners Moon, Fever Crumb and Mortal Engines series by Philip Reeve
An amazing 5(not including the 3 prequels) set of books by author Philip Reeve, the mortal engines series of books follows Tom, Hester, Wren, Shrike and Professor Pennyroyal. Set in the far future were oceans no longer exist, fossil fuels and renewable energy are running out, causing clockwork machines to be used. Cities are not stationary and are now moving fortress’s on ‘’Hunting grounds’’ were cities get eaten for parts and people! A war is also being waged between the ground dwelling trakionstadts and the flying green storm puts everyone else in jeopardy, and with the threat of long dead machines in orbit threatening to awake and cause a massive number of casualties in the process also sets in a hint of anxiousness at every turn. The prequel books follow Fever crumb, doctor crumb, and many others. Set centuries before mortal Engines London (which is stationary in this) has just faced a bloody uprising were the non- human Scriven have just been removed from power. This is a fantastic prequel to the mortal engines quartet but doesn’t have to be read for the mortal engines plot.
I would recommend this book series to 12 years and up as it may bore younger readers, but once you’re a chapter in it’s impossible to put down. Also anyone who enjoys the adventure, humour and action genres of books .Also whoever enjoyed authors such as Eoin Colfer’s Artemis Fowl series and Airman and anyone who enjoyed Darren Shan’s Demonata series ( and of course other books by Philip Reeve). A must read and a gripping series of books to get into.

Frog by Joffre White
The book Frog, by Joffre White is about a boy called Chris. One night when Chris is star gazing he notices a flash of light which he decides to investigate in the morning. He later discovers that the flash of light he saw was actually a knight from another dimension that has been cursed by a witch. The knight is called Sir Peacealot and for the survival of his dimension Chris must come with him to stop the evil witch Balzeera and her wicked brother Lord Maelstrom.
This book was exciting all the way through, there is never a bit when you want to put it down, as whenever you are about to something exciting comes across and stops you. Also even though it is a bit unusual you can imagine that it could somehow happen as we don’t know for sure whether there is another dimension. Furthermore I think that it ended quite well as the ending made you want to keep reading the next book.
The main characters were Chris, who eventually gets a nickname of Frog and with that changes a lot throughout the story, from a little boy to a formidable fighter and a great friend, Sir Peacealot who is a knight who was sent on a quest to find and kill the evil witches that roamed the land, Sir Dragonslayer who is a dragon rider and he also kills evil dragons to stop them killing people and livestock (he gives Frog a dragon hide vest that saves his live on many occasions). There is also Lady Dawnstar who is a knight and the leader of the Maids of Steel- a formidable army of women knights, Logan a freeman and the leader of the rangers, Gizmo a wizard that gives Frog a enchanted sword that lets him travel in between dimensions he also has a pet panther. Finally there is King Hector.
The settings in this story were described in a lot of detail to immerse you in the adventures and make you feel like you are a part of it so it is harder to pull away from it. My favourite part of the story was when Frog, Lady Dawnstar, Logan and Sir Peacealot were in the labyrinth trying to find the centre so they can raise the black water. This is because it is exciting as the future of the dimension depends on them finding their way through the labyrinth. I don’t think however that anything can be improved in the story as it is as good as it can be. After I finished the book I felt a bit bored as I didn’t have anything to do anymore. Also it is probably a better book than Harry Potter.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J K Rowling
Harry Potter is based on a normal boy who lives with his Uncle, Aunt and his evil cousin Dudley. He is very badly treated, for instance he lives in a cupboard under the stairs, but little does he know that he has a whole life of excitement and adventure ahead of him. As the book explains about Harry’s first year at Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. There are 7 books in the series; it is good for young readers, as they gradually get longer so it can build up their reading stamina.
I found this book exciting and it kept you guessing which made it impossible not to turn the next page. The chapters were just the right length. Each chapter was filled with something new to discover. For example there are details from Diagon alley sweets to the galleons (the wizarding currency) at Gringotts Bank this will keep the readers interested in every chapter.
The book would constantly keep you guessing, if not with the main adventure then maybe with one of the other side adventures. For instance, when Harry got to the school he and his friends had to wear a hat which determined which house they would be put in. This part keeps you guessing as you wonder who will be in which house.
Apart from the main characters my favourite character is the school grounds keeper, Hagrid. He is about 9 foot tall, he has long black hair and a long black beard. He lives in a small hut near the grounds and he is basically like a Uncle to all of the children as he gives them guidance and support on all of their adventures
As for a point that could be improved on, the final scenes that the book builds up to were crammed into 20 pages. I would have thought they would have wrote a bit more on such a dramatic moment. As a whole I would say the book is a brilliant book for all ages and I would recommend reading on through the next books and then watching the films.

This is a fantastic book. It is full of humour and there are sooooooooo many different parts of the book you can relate to. I think that is an appropriate book for year 7 and upwards. I was put onto reading this book when my older sister read it, at the time she was in Year 7. Since then I have been going through the whole series of books and I like all of them a lot, I really mean that! I would suggest this series because they are soooooooooo fantastic. I personally think this is a must read.

Hush,Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
I really enjoyed this romantic read. This page-turning plot is about Nora Grey, who finds herself drawn to her new biology partner - Patch. He is charming and cheeky; however, there is more to Patch than meets the eye! Suddenly Nora is plunged into a century-old war and it's time to choose sides.
This has to be one of my favourite books of 2012 because it is irresistibly intriguing and makes you want to find out the truth about Patch. But can they really be together? There are four books in this wonderful series by Becca Fitzpatrick - Hush,Hush, Cresendo, Silence and Finale. I can't wait to read the last two!!!

World of Norm by Jonathan Meres
This book made me cry with laughter! He awoke about to pee in his dad's wardrobe. Like how wierd is that?! Norm's dad kept him awake all night because he was snoring like a rhinocerous. The pictures are funny especially the walking toilet. I recommend this book to anyone who hasn't read it and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! NEVER stop writing Jonathon!
I think the bookbuzz people who gave us the oppurtunity to read new books and to choose one out of a fantastic selection were really kind. Thankyou soo much! Its not very often we get such an amazing luxury as that in our school even though the librarians are organising a party for the students of the library ! I couldn't choose the book that i wanted because they all looked soo amazing! It took me over a week to decide.

Sleep Overs by Jacqueline Wilson
I read a fantastic book called Sleepovers by Jacqueline Wilson. When Daisy moved to a new school she made friends with some girls called Amy, Bella, Chloe, Daisy and Emily and they made their own special secret club called Alphabet Club. When Amy has a sleepover for her birthday, the others decide they will all do the same, but Daisy is worried about how her friends will react to her sister Lily, who has had special needs since she was born.
It blew me away when Daisy was scared to tell her friends she wasn't aloud to have a sleepover because of her sister Lily. But when Chloe (her enemy) invites Daisy to her sleepover what will Daisy say about not having her own sleepover? If you haven't got a book to read then I would recommend this book to anyone! To find out more information on this book go to Nailsea school library and pick up a copy of a The sleepover today!

The Longest Whale Song by Jaqueline Wilson
This is a dramatic story with many exciting characters. The main character Ella sends loads of messages to her mum since shes in a coma and can't hear her. She sends one saying:
"Dear mum,
Oh dear I know you can't read this but I still neeed to write to you. There's so much I want to tell you. I've been doing a special project about whales. Did you know that humpback whales can sing? Isn't it amazing to think of all those whales down in the depths of the ocean , singing? Usually the songs are quite short - but one whale was recorded singing non-stop for TWENTY-TWO HOURS! I'd sing for even longer if it would only make you wake up. I'm going to play you some beautiful whale songs when i visit you in Hospital. You'll listen, won't you? Lots and lots and lots of love Ella xx."
So that's how Ella writes to her mum. This is an amazing book and I would recommend it to anyone who loves adventure books with some sad parts in the story. I would rate this book 5 stars. by Ella.

Deeper Than Blue by Jill Hucklesby
I read an amazing book called Deeper Than Blue. It is a dramatic book it's about a 13 year old girl who is about to become a world champion at swimming but when an obstacle gets in her way will she ever be able to swim again? This book was so amazing that I had to let my mum borrow it for her to read she said it was amazing it was quite sad when her friend got hit by a car and she lost a leg. It is an amazing book and it is a true story I think it shows people how easy it can be to recover after losing a leg and that you can still follow your dreams I think this is a truly remarkable story at would rate it 5 stars. I would recommend it to any one who likes dramatic stories and adventure books.

Gone by Michael Grant
"Imagine a life without adults, no one to read a book at night, no one to cook, clean, wash and pick you up at the end of school. Well, imagine no more.
I would recommend Gone by Michael Grant to 12-15 years olds because it is amazing, it grips you from the start, and makes you never want to put it down. It's about a little town called Perdido beach.
Sudennlyeveryone over 15 disappears. I like the way he describes it. Teachers disappear in mid sentence, cars travelling at 30 miles an hour.
The whole town gets enclosed in a barrier, cut out from the outside world and turned into chaos as children have to look after babies, appoint leaders and look after each other.
I think that people who like adventure and mystery books would love it. Gone is the first of the Gone series and I can't wait to read the second one : Hunger"
